Micro-credential

Micro-credentialing is a competency-based digital form of certification that is used to indicate that mastery of a competency has been gained based on the demonstration of a specific skill or a set of skills (NEA, 2019).  To recognize and signal teacher competencies around integrating Computational Thinking (CT), our project developed micro-credentials which will be implemented on the Digital Promise platform.

The iCT competency model focuses on both content knowledge of CT and CT practices, as well as pedagogical knowledge of CT integration. The competencies are derived from previous research and aligned with ISTE CT and CSTA standards.

The iCT micro-credentials:

  • Focus on the demonstration of competencies (i.e., knowledge, skills, abilities, and attitudes) essential for CT integration
  • Recognize teachers’ engagement with  and understanding of CT integration
  • Encourage teachers to acquire new knowledge and skills,  making them more capable in designing, facilitating, and iterating CT integrated learning experiences
  • Offer scalability around teacher professional learning
